Xiyu

Der traditionelle chinesische Begriff Xiyu (chinesisch 西域 Xīyù ‚"Westliche Regionen" oder "Westliche Gebiete"‘) bezeichnet diejenigen Gebiete, welche während der Han-Zeit westlich des Yumenguan-Passes (chinesisch 玉門關 / 玉门关 Yùménguān, engl. Jade Gate) und des Yangguan-Passes (陽關 / 阳关 Yángguān) lagen, einschließlich des heutigen Xinjiang und eines Teiles von Zentralasien.

Mit einem neueren Verständnis von Ost und West hat der Begriff nichts zu tun.
