Z-Wave

Z-Wave ist ein drahtloser Kommunikations-Standard, der von der dänischen Firma Zensys und der Z-Wave Alliance für die Heimautomatisierung entwickelt wurde.

Z-Wave Alliance

Die Z-Wave Alliance ist eine Vereinigung von über hundert unabhängigen Herstellern, die Produkte für drahtlose Heimautomation herstellen bzw. noch entwickeln wollen. Hauptmitglieder (sogenannte „Principal Members“) sind Danfoss, Intel Corporation, Intermatic, Leviton, Monster Cabel, Universal Electronics, Fakro, Wayne-Dalton und Zensys.

Mit mehr als 160 Herstellern in der Z-Wave Alliance und mehr als 170 interoperablen Produkten führt Z-Wave klar im Markt für „Wireless Home Control“.

  • Übertragungsrate: 9.600 bit/s oder 40 Kbit/s
  • Modulation: 2-FSK
  • Reichweite: Über 200 Meter im Freifeld, in Gebäuden, abhängig von den verwendeten Baumaterialien, deutlich weniger; typisch um 30 m
  • Frequenzband: Z-Wave nutzt das ISM-Band im Bereich um 900 MHz, in den USA sind es 908,42 MHz, in Europa 868,42 MHz.

Topologie und Routing

Z-Wave nutzt als Netzwerktopologie ein vermaschtes Netz, d. h. jeder Netzwerkknoten ist mit einem oder mehreren anderen Netzwerkknoten verbunden. Das hat den Vorteil, dass eine Nachricht zwischen zwei Netzwerkknoten übermittelt werden kann, selbst wenn diese nicht direkt miteinander kommunizieren können, z. B. weil sie zu weit voneinander entfernt sind. In diesem Fall wird die Nachricht über einen oder mehrere „Zwischenknoten“ übertragen; dieser Vorgang wird Routing genannt. Ein Z-Wave-Netzwerk kann aus bis zu 232 Geräten bestehen. Darüber hinaus ist es auch möglich, mehrere Z-Wave-Netzwerke über Bridges miteinander zu verbinden.

Einsatzgebiete

Haupt-Einsatzgebiet ist die Heimautomation, also die drahtlose Steuerung von Heizung, Lüftung, Beleuchtung und Klimaanlagen. Wegen der niedrigen Bandbreite ist Z-Wave nicht für die Übertragung von Audio- oder Videodaten geeignet. Z-Wave steht in direkter Konkurrenz zu ZigBee.
