Zandschan (persisch ‏زنجان‎) ist eine Stadt in Nordwesten des Iran mit 377.387 Einwohnern (Stand 2006). Sie ist Sitz der Verwaltung der Provinz Zandschan und befindet sich 298 km nordwestlich von Teheran.

Von Mai 1850 bis Januar 1851 war Zandschan Zentrum eines Babaaufstandes,[1] bei dem unter anderem versucht wurde, das lokale Gefängnis zu stürmen, um Gefangene, die wegen Steuerhinterziehung einsassen, zu befreien.[2]

In den letzten Tagen des Regimes Mohammad Reza Pahlavis legten die Händler des Bazars von Zandschan aus Protest gegen das Ausbleiben versprochener Reformen den Betrieb des Bazars für 45 Tage still.[3]
