Brilliance China Auto ist ein chinesischer Automobilhersteller.

Geschichte

Im Juni 1992 gegründet, gehörte die Marke zunächst zu Bermuda. 2002 wurde die Mittelklasselimousine Zhonghua vorgestellt. Heute läuft sie nur noch in Asien unter diesem Namen. In Europa wurde sie 2007 unter dem Namen BS6 eingeführt. Im März 2003 ging Brilliance das Joint-Venture „BMW Brilliance Automotive Limited“ mit BMW ein, seitdem werden der BMW 3er und 5er für den asiatischen Markt in China produziert. Das 5er Modell wird dort unter anderem als Langversion gefertigt, die nur in China erhältlich ist.

Brilliance ist mit 51% an Shenyang Automotive beteiligt, das die Modelle der Marken Zhonghua, JinBei und Granse herstellt.[1]

2005 wollte die Marke in die Tourenwagen-WM (WTCC) einsteigen. Doch diese Pläne wurden nach mehreren Problemen wieder aufgegeben.

Im Sommer 2007 sollten in Europa zwei neue Modelle eingeführt werden: Die Stufenhecklimousine BS4 und das Coupe BC3. Die Einführung verschob sich jedoch in den Herbst 2008[2].

Die Wagen geraten immer wieder in die Diskussion, da Sicherheitstests schwere Sicherheitsmängel zum Vorschein brachten. So bekam der BS6 im ADAC-Sicherheitstest nur einen von fünf möglichen Sternen und damit das schlechteste Ergebnis seit langem. Das aktuelle Modell erreicht beim ADAC-Crashtest nur einen Stern. Nach Aussage des deutschen Importeurs hat das überarbeitete Modell, das 2008 auf den deutschen Markt kam, drei Sterne.

Im Juli 2007 wurde bekannt, dass das Unternehmen plant, sich von der Aktienbörse in New York zurückzuziehen.[3] Als Gründe wurden das gefallene Handelsvolumen und wachsende Verwaltungskosten durch US-Börsenbestimmungen genannt.

Im August 2008 wurde HSO Motors Europe, der Generalimporteur der Automarke Brilliance in Europa, als Champion Partner von Borussia Dortmund vorgestellt. Für die Spielzeiten 2008/2009 und 2009/2010 wurde der Vertrag bereits fest geschlossen.
