Abbeville ist eine Stadt in Vermilion Parish im US-Bundesstaat Louisiana und liegt 241 km westlich von New Orleans. Der Ort ist Verwaltungssitz des Vermilion Parish.

Geschichte

Das Land auf dem sich Abbeville entwickeln sollte, wurde am 25. Juli 1843 vom Gründer Antoine Désiré Mégret für 900 $ gekauft. Abbeville ist nach der Heimat von Mégret in Frankreich genannt. Mit der Zeit bürgerte sich statt "Abbville", "Abbeville" ein, warum ist ungeklärt.

1890 lebten 637 Menschen in Abbeville; 1900, 1.536; 1910, 2.907; und 1940, war Abbeville die Heimat von 6.672 Bewohnern. 1990 lebten 11.187 Menschen in Abbeville.
