Anton Gentil

Anton Kilian Gentil (* 29. Juli 1867 in Aschaffenburg; † 20. Mai 1951 ebenda) war ein deutscher Fabrikant und Kunstsammler.

Werdegang

Gentil wurde als Sohn des Konditors August Gentil in Aschaffenburg geboren. Nach einer Lehre zum Glaser und Schlosser baute er dort eine Maschinenfabrik auf, die sich auf die Herstellung von Pumpen spezialisiert hatte.

In seinem Auftrag entstanden in Aschaffenburg eine Reihe markanter historisierender Villen, darunter die Gentilburg in der heute nach ihm benannten Straße. In den 1920er Jahren legte er eine umfangreiche Sammlung vorwiegend deutscher Kunst vom Mittelalter bis zum frühen 20. Jahrhundert an, die heute im Museum der Stadt Aschaffenburg untergebracht ist.

Im Mai 1951 kam er bei einem Autounfall ums Leben.
