Artaius


Artaius, latinisierte Form von Artaios (altir. art, kymr. arth, „der Bär“), ist neben Artio, Andarta und Matunus eine der keltischen Bärengottheiten, der nach der Interpretatio Romana mit dem römischen Gott Mercurius gleichgesetzt wurde. Bezeugt ist er lediglich in einer römerzeitlichen Inschrift aus Beaucroissant bei Vienne (Dép. Isère)[1]. Es wird vermutet, dass der Name Artur auf Artaius zurückgehen könnte.

Artaius war auch der Name eines medischen Königs (653-613 v. Chr.).[2]
