Black Manufacturing Company

Der Black war ein PKW, der 1908-1910 von der Black Manufacturing Company in Chicago (Illinois) hergestellt wurde[1]. Die Firma fertigte auch den Chicago Motor Buggy.

Es handelte sich dabei um hochrädrige Fahrzeuge, die nur US-$ 375,-- bis US-$ 450,-- kosteten[1]. Zum Vergleich: Der Western Gale Modell A kostete US-$ 500,-- und die in Großserie gefertigten Modelle Oldsmobile Curved Dash und Ford Doctor’s Car US-$ 650,--, bzw. US-$ 850,--[1].

Der Black hatte einen luftgekühlten 2-Zylinder-Benzinmotor mit 12-18 bhp (8,8-13,2 kW) Leistung, Kettenantrieb, Steuerung über ein Lenkrad und (damals unüblich) doppelte Bremsen[1]. Der Wagen erreichte Geschwindigkeiten von 3 – 40 km/h und verbrauchte 12,75 l / 100 km Benzin[1].

Es gab auch Surries und Top Motor Buggies[1].

Von 1909 bis 1910 verkaufte die Black Manufacturing Company einen umbenannten Crow-Elkhart mit Vierzylinder-Reihenmotor, der 25-40 bhp (18,4-29 kW) leistete, als Black Crow.
