Die Hauptstadt des Distriktes ist Bungoma. Der Distrikt hat 876.491 Einwohner und eine Fläche von 2.069 km².[2] Der Hauptwirtschaftszweig ist die Landwirtschaft, der Schwerpunkt liegt auf dem Anbau von Zuckerrohr und Mais. An die Stromversorgung sind 3,1 % der Haushalte angeschlossen.[3]
Der Distrikt gehört zum Bistum Bungoma der römisch-katholischen Kirche.[4]
