Dienstflagge der Kanadischen Küstenwache

Die Kanadische Küstenwache (französisch Garde côtière canadienne, englisch Canadian Coast Guard), abgekürzt CCG, ist die Küstenwache Kanadas. Ihr Sitz ist in Ottawa, Ontario. Die zivile Organisation mit ^[1] ist dem Department of Fisheries and Oceans unterstellt, bis 1994 dem Department of Transport (Verkehrsministerium)^[2].

Ihre Aufgaben umfassen unter anderem die Rettung von Personen aus Seenot (National Search and Rescue Program), das Aufstellen und Warten von Seezeichen, die Verhütung und Bekämpfung von Ölverschmutzungen sowie das Betreiben von Eisbrechern. Der Küstenwache ist die Fisheries and Oceans Canada, eine Behörde für Fischereiaufsicht, unterstellt.

Der Grenzschutz (mit dem weltweit längster Küstenstreifen eines Landes: 202.080 km) ist Aufgabe der Canadian Forces Maritime Command, während die Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) zu Lande und zu Wasser Polizeiaufgaben des Bundes wahrnimmt.

Organisation

Die Kanadische Küstenwache steht unter der Leitung eines Commissioner of the Canadian Coast Guard (CCG), seit 2006 ist dies George Da Pont. Im untersteht die CCG bureaucracy mit den Abteilungen

Fleet Directorate, Maritime Services Directorate, Integrated Technical Services Directorate und Major Crown Projects Directorate.

Die Küstenwache ist in fünf Regionen aufgeteilt:

• Pacific Region^[3]

Ausrüstung

Zur Flotte gehören 114 Wasserfahrzeuge sowie 22 Helikopter und einige Flugzeuge.^[4] Schiffe der Kanadischen Küstenwache tragen den Präfix Canadian Coast Guard Ship, abgekürzt CCGS.

Einrichtungen

Die Küstenwache unterhält eine eigene zentrale Bildungseinrichtung, das Canadian Coast Guard College (CCGC) Westmount (Cape Breton Regional Municipality) nahe Sydney in der Provinz Nova Scotia.^[5]
