Computer to Film (CTF) wird das Verfahren bezeichnet, bei dem mittels eines digitalen Filmbelichters von einem Computer (RIP) gesendete Daten direkt auf Film belichtet werden. Die Belichtung findet meist mittels Laser statt, anschließend muss der Film noch entwickelt werden. Der Film kann für den Druckprozess noch nicht direkt verwendet werden und stellt nur einen Zwischenschritt dar. Es muss zunächst noch das Druckbild vom Film auf die Druckplatte mittels manueller Plattenkopie übertragen werden. Hierbei wird eine lichtempfindliche Druckplatte in den Plattenkopierer gelegt, der Film darübergelegt und die Lichtquelle für einige Sekunden eingeschaltet. Anschließend wird die belichtete Druckplatte entwickelt.

CTF läutete im Bereich Druck und Druckvorstufe die großflächige Computerisierung ein und sorgte dafür, dass der Beruf des Retuscheurs ausstarb. Die zuvor sehr (zeit-)aufwändige manuelle Erzeugung von Druckvorlagen (Filmen) ließ sich mittels CTF auf einen Bruchteil des Aufwandes reduzieren.

CTF wurde mittlerweile (Stand: Januar 2010) weitestgehend durch CTP (Computer to Plate) ersetzt. Nur für den Siebdruck sind auch heute noch digitale Filmbelichter weit verbreitet, wobei auch hier der aufwändige und teure Belichtungs- und Entwicklungsprozess teilweise schon durch spezielle Großformatdrucker ersetzt wird, die direkt Folien mit spezieller Tinte bedrucken. Mittels dieser Folien können dann die Siebdruckplatten belichtet werden.
