Die Cumbrian Coast Line ist eine 137,6 km lange Eisenbahnstrecke mit Normalspurweite in Nord-West England, die von Carlisle über Workington und Whitehaven nach Barrow-in-Furness führt. Die Strecke ist ein Teil der Network Rail Strecke NW 4033, die als Furness Line über Ulverston und Grange-over-Sands nach Carnforth führt und dort Verbindung an die West Coast Main Line hat.

Geschichte

Die Cumbrian Coast Line ist ein Zusammenschluss einer Reihe von früheren (Teil-)Strecken:

Carlisle bis Maryport, Maryport and Carlisle Railway, eröffnet 1845
Maryport bis Whitehaven, Whitehaven Junction Railway, gekauft von der London and North Western Railway 1866
Whitehaven bis Kirkby-in-Furness, Whitehaven and Furness Railway, gekauft von der Furness Railway 1865
Kirkby-in-Furness bis Barrow-in-Furness, Furness Railway eröffnet 1844

Alle diese Teilstrecken wurden 1923 von der London, Midland and Scottish Railway übernommen.

Alle Linien, die an die Strecke angeschlossen waren, sind bis auf die Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway, die heute als Museumseisenbahn betrieben wird, eingestellt.
