GNR (Band)

GNR (Akronym für Grupo Novo Rock) ist eine dreiköpfige portugiesische Rockband. Sie gründete sich 1980 in Porto.

Geschichte

Die Band formierte sich in einer Garage in der Rua Airosa im Stadtteil Francos. Die ursprüngliche Besetzung waren Toli César Machado (Schlagzeug), Alexandre Soares (Gitarre) und Vítor Rua (Gitarre). Kurze Zeit später stieß der Bassist Mano Zé zur Band. 1982 erschien unter dem Titel Independança das Debütalbum, das von der Kritik positiv aufgenommen wurde. Insbesondere in den 1980er Jahren verkörperte die Band die Rockmusik aus Portugal. Im Sommer 2011 erreichte ihr Album Voos domésticos die Nummer-eins in den portugiesischen Albumcharts.
