High Sheriff of Kent

Das Amt des High Sheriff of Kent ist das älteste öffentliche Amt der englischen Monarchie und wurde erstmals 1067 mit Alain de Buckland (1045-1108) besetzt, der es bis 1070 bekleidete. War die Aufgabe des High Sheriff ursprünglich, in Kent für den König Recht zu sprechen, so wurden über die Jahrhunderte die meisten der Aufgaben auf andere Stellen übertragen, so dass es sich heute fast nur noch um ein zeremonielles Amt handelt. Das Amt des High Sheriff of Kent wird nach einer offiziellen Nominierung von Personen für die nächsten drei Jahre durch die Königin bestimmt und jedes Jahr im März oder April neu besetzt[1].
