Acquarossa ist eine politische Gemeinde im Circolo d'Acquarossa, im Bezirk Blenio des Kantons Tessin in der Schweiz.

Sie entstand am 4. April 2004 aus der Fusion der bis dahin selbstständigen Gemeinden Castro TI, Corzoneso, Dongio, Largario, Leontica, Lottigna, Marolta, Ponto Valentino und Prugiasco. Als Namensgeber fungierte der zentral gelegene Kurort Acquarossa.

Geographie

Acquarossa liegt im Valle di Blenio. Nachbargemeinden sind von Norden aus im Uhrzeigersinn Olivone, Aquila, Torre, Malvaglia und Ludiano, sowie Sobrio, Cavagnago, Anzonico und Faido im Bezirk Leventina.

Sehenswürdigkeiten

Weit oberhalb des Ortsteils Prugiasco liegt die romanische Kirche San Carlo di Negrentino (bis 1702 Sant' Ambrogio). Sie wurde im 11. Jahrhundert erbaut und im 12. Jahrhundert erweitert und gilt als eines der wichtigsten historischen Bauwerke des Bleniotals.

Im Innern enthält sie romanische und spätgotische Fresken. Die von 1676 stammende Glocke zersprang in den 1940er Jahren. Im Sinn der Erhaltung von Kulturgut wurde die Glocke anstelle einer Neuanschaffung instand gestellt und läutet seit dem 7. Dezember 2008, dem Tag des heiligen Ambrosius, wieder. [2]
