Homer ist eine freie Plattform-übergreifende Software für Videokonferenzen. Sie realisiert ein VoIP-Softphone auf Basis des Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) und ist somit kompatibel zu anderen SIP-basierenden Softphones. Homer unterstützt dabei im Gegensatz zu anderen Lösungen eine unbegrenzte Anzahl gleichzeitiger Teilnehmer für Video- und Audio-basierte Chats in Echtzeit. Es können zusätzlich sowohl Film- als auch Audiodateien während einer Konferenzsitzung live präsentiert werden. Des Weiteren ermöglicht Homer die Beobachtung von Aktivitäten auf einem entfernten Desktop. Die Software benötigt für die angebotenen Dienste keine Serverinfrastruktur und kann in Abhängigkeit vom vorliegenden Anwendungsfall und verfügbarer Netzkapazitäten Video/Audio-Daten sowohl mit niedriger als auch hoher Qualität übertragen.
