Jabal Amel (ar: جبل عامل, teilweise auch gelistet als Dschabal Amil) ist die historische Bezeichnung des südlichen Libanon bis zur Gründung des modernen Libanon im Jahre 1920.

Name

Jabal Amel bedeutet Berge des Amil und ist nach dem Stamm der "Amila" (auch Banu Amela) benannt. Diese Bergregion wird hauptsächlich von Schiiten bewohnt.[1]. Jabal Amel ist auch gleichbedeutend mit dem nördlichen Teil des historischen Galiläa.

Orte

Insgesamt existieren mehr als 500 Städte und Dörfer und landwirtschaftliche Betriebe in dieser Region.[2] Größere Orte des Jabal Amel sind Tyre, Sarafand, Nabatäa, Tibnine und Bint Dschubeil.
