Jamal Ahmad Mohammad Ali Al Badawi auch Jamal Abu Abed Al Rahman Al Badawi (* 1969) ist ein jemenitischer Staatsbürger und Terrorist. Er stammt ursprünglich aus dem südlichen Teil von Aden. In der arabischen Höflichkeitsform (Kunya) ist er auch unter Abu Abd al-Rahman bekannt. Er wurde schuldig gesprochen, Drahtzieher und Mittäter zu sein bei dem Anschlag am 12. Oktober 2000 auf die USS Cole. Bei dem Selbstmordattentat vor der jemenitischen Hafenstadt Aden wurden 17 US-Militärangehörige getötet, sowie 39 verwundet.

Prozesse

Jamal Ahmad Mohammad Ali Al Badawi wurde in Jemen von den dortigen Sicherheitskräften verhaftet und wurde am 29. September 2004 von Najib Muhammad al-Qadari zum Tode verurteilt. Das Todesurteil wurde im Februar 2005 von Said Naji al-Qata' aufgehoben und umgewandelt in 15 Jahre Haft.

Am 15. Mai 2003 wurde er wegen des Anschlags auf die USS Cole sowie des versuchten Anschlags auf die USS The Sullivans ebenfalls von den USA gerichtlich angeklagt und wegen des Prozesses an die Vereinigten Staaten ausgeliefert. Man beschuldigte ihn, er sei nach Saudi-Arabien eingereist, hätte dort ein kleines Boot, sowie ein Fahrzeug mit Anhänger gekauft, um damit den Anschlag auf die USS The Sullivans auszuführen. Der Plan misslang jedoch, das Boot kenterte wegen des Gewichts des Sprengstoffs.

Der US-Fernsehsender Fox News, bezeichnete Al Badawi als Hauptdrahtzieher des Anschlags.

Nur zwei der sechs Attentäter wurden zum Tode verurteilt, die restlichen bekamen Gefängnisstrafen zwischen 5 und 10 Jahren.

Flucht

Al Badawi ist seit seinem Todesurteil zweimal aus jemenitischen Gefängnissen geflüchtet. Das erste Mal entwischte er am 11. April 2003 mit neun anderen Häftlingen aus einem Gefängnis in Aden für politische Gefangene. Seit seinem letzten Ausbruch im Februar 2006 ist er auf der Flucht. Er steht mittlerweile auf der Liste der FBI Most Wanted Terrorists [1].
