Cercamon war einer der ersten Trobadors. Seine dichterische Tätigkeit, soweit sie datierbar ist, fällt in die Jahre 1137 bis 1149.

Er verbrachte seine meiste Zeit am Hof von Wilhelm X. (Aquitanien), dessen Tod am 9. April 1137 er einen planh widmete. Möglicherweise war er Mentor von Marcabru. Von Cercamon sind sieben Dichtungen erhalten, dazu eine, die ihm nicht sicher zuzuordnen ist. Es gibt Indizien, dass er auf einem Kreuzzug, bei dem er Ludwig VII. (Frankreich) folgte, starb.
