Check-raise

Check-raise ist eine Spielweise im Poker, bei der ein Spieler zunächst nur checkt und erst nachdem ein hinter ihm sitzender Spieler gesetzt hat selbst erhöht. Er täuscht hierbei zunächst Schwäche vor (vgl. Slowplay), um nachfolgende Spieler zu einem Einsatz zu verleiten.

Ob ein check-raise wie beabsichtigt auch tatsächlich vollendet werden kann, ist also auch vom Setzverhalten der nachfolgendenden Spieler abhängig. Es besteht nämlich die Möglichkeit, dass die gegnerischen Spieler den geplanten check-raise verhindern, indem sie alle ebenfalls alle checken anstatt zu setzen, und somit die nächste Karte umsonst sehen bzw. billig den Showdown erreichen.

Check-raisen ist im No Limit-Bereich aus diesem Grund relativ selten (der Spieler setzt gleich auch aus ungünstiger vorderer Position) und wird hauptsächlich gegen aggressive (oft bluffende) Gegner gespielt, die oft nur setzen weil sie Position haben.

Oft kommt es bei Fixed Limit zu einem check-raise, weil die Draws aufgrund der Einsatzbegrenzung viel billiger sind als im No Limit Poker. Daher kann der nach eigener Einschätzung vorn liegende Spieler die Draw Hands mit einem einfachen Einsatz nicht aus dem Spiel verdrängen (ihre Pot Odds sind zu gut) und durch die Verdopplung via check-raise mehr Druck auf sie ausüben.
