Checkerboard Hill: Die Markierung am Checkerboard Hill

Der Checkerboard Hill ist ein Hügel im An- und Abflugbereich des ehemaligen Flughafens Kai Tak in Hongkong. Ihm wurden große Teile abgesprengt, um die amtlichen Sicherheitsabstände zu gewähren. So entstanden zwei glatte, pyramidenartige Wände am Hügel. Darauf wurden zwei rot-weiße Schachbrettmuster (englisch: Checkerboard) aufgemalt, um den restlichen Hügel sicher kenntlich zu machen. Auf dem Hügel stand außerdem der Gleitpfad-Sender für den Instrumenten-Anflug auf die Landebahn 13.
