Nahid Toubia

Nahid Toubia (* 1951 in Khartum) ist eine ägyptische Menschen- und Frauenrechtlerin, Ärztin und Professorin der Columbia University, die sich besonders gegen die Weibliche Genitalverstümmelung einsetzt. Sie ist die erste weibliche Chirurgin, die im Sudan praktizierte.

Nahid Toubia studierte Medizin in Ägypten und war lange Jahre Leiterin der kinderchirurgischen Abteilung eines Khartumer Lehrkrankenhauses. 1981 wurde sie Fellow des Royal College of Surgeons. Sie ist Mitglied einiger Gutachterkommissionen der WHO, UNICEF and UNDP.
