Nuclear Emergency Support Team

Das Nuclear Emergency Support Team (NEST) ist ein Programm für alle Arten von nuklearen Notfällen der National Nuclear Security Administration des Energieministeriums der Vereinigten Staaten. [1][2] Teams können aus bis zu 600 Wissenschaftern, Technikern und anderen Spezialkräften bestehen und global eingesetzt werden.[3] Hubschrauber und Flugzeuge mit Sensoren zu Detektion radioaktiver Strahlung und Substanzen stehen den NEST-Teams zur Verfügung.

Das Nuclear Emergency Search Team wurde in den 1970er Jahren unter US-Präsident Gerald Ford gegründet und 2002 umbenannt. [4] [5]

Im März 2011 wurden NEST bei den Nuklearunfällen in Japan eingesetzt.[6][7]
