Philology

Philology ist ein italienisches Jazzlabel mit Sitz in Macerata.

Philology wurde Mitte 1987 von Paolo Piangiarelli gegründet, zunächst um Musik seiner Idole Chet Baker, Lee Konitz oder Phil Woods in Italien zu veröffentlichen, so den 3-LP-Set The Macerata Concert von Phil Woods als erstes Album des Labels, gefolgt von bislang unveröffentlichte Liveaufnahmen von Charlie Parker (Bird's Eyes, Last Unissued) und Lester Young (Prez's Hat).[1] In den folgenden Jahren erschienen auf dem Label eigene Produktionen und Livemitschnitte italienischer Musiker wie Gianni Basso, Fabrizio Bosso, Francesco Cafiso, Stefano Di Battista, Franco D'Andrea, Giovanni Mazzarino, Enrico Pieranunzi, Enrico Rava, Renato Sellani und Massimo Urbani sowie Aufnahmen internationaler Künstler wie Albert Ayler, Stan Getz, Royce Campbell und Peggy Stern.[2]
