Postulant

Als Postulant (von lat.: postulare = „erbitten, verlangen“) wird in verschiedenen religiösen Gemeinschaften, z. B. christlichen Ordensgemeinschaften oder bei einzelnen buddhistischen Orden ein Gläubiger bezeichnet, der um die Aufnahme in die Gemeinschaft ersucht hat und ein Postulat absolvieren muss, einen in der Regel mehrmonatigen Zeitraum, in dem er das Leben in der Gemeinschaft kennenlernt und seine Berufung zum Ordensleben geprüft wird. Auf das Postulat folgt das Noviziat, an dessen Beginn meist die formelle Zulassung zur Einkleidung steht. Alternative Bezeichnungen für den Postulanten sind Kandidat oder Aspirant.[1]

Auch die Kandidaten für die Aufnahme in eine Freimaurer-Loge werden gelegentlich als Postulanten bezeichnet.[2]
