When You Say Nothing at All ist ein Country-Lied von Keith Whitley, das 1988 veröffentlicht wurde. Geschrieben wurde es von Paul Overstreet und Don Schlitz. Die erfolgreichste Coverversion war die Ballade von Ronan Keating.

RCA Records veröffentlichte When You Say Nothing at All als nachfolgende Single auf Don’t Close Your Eyes, welches zugleich auch sein drittes Album war. Nach drei Top-10-Erfolgen erreichte When You Say Nothing at All wie sein Vorgänger Platz 1 der Billboard Country Songs. When You Say Nothing at All stieg am 17. September 1988 auf Platz 61 in die Charts ein. Schrittweise erreichte das Lied Platz 1, wo es zwei Wochen lang verblieb. Dies war der zweite von fünf aufeinanderfolgenden Platz-1-Erfolgen für Whitley in den Charts der Billboard Country Songs, allerdings verstarb er bereits am 9. Mai 1989 an einer Alkoholvergiftung und konnte die letzten beiden Erfolge nicht mehr miterleben.[1]

Alison Krauss

1994 nahm Alison Krauss When You Say Nothing at All zusammen mit ihrer Band Union Station für ein Tribute-Album für Keith Whitley auf. Krauss war von dem Erfolg des Liedes selbst völlig überrascht.[3] Mit ihrer Version des Liedes schaffte sie es auf Platz 3 der Billboard Country Songs.

Ronan Keating

When You Say Nothing at All war 1999 die erste Singleauskopplung des Debütalbums Ronan der Künstlers Ronan Keating. Diese Version wurde 1999 für den Film Notting Hill als Soundtrack aufgenommen. Am 26. Juli 1999 wurde das Lied in England veröffentlicht. In Großbritannien, Irland und Neuseeland erreichte das Lied jeweils Platz 1 in den Charts.[4][5][6] Im deutschsprachigen Raum lief das Lied in den Top 10.
