William Hay, 18. Earl of Erroll

William Hay, 18. Earl of Erroll

William Hay, 18. Earl of Erroll KT, PC (* 21. Februar 1801; † 19. April 1846) war ein schottischer Peer.

Leben und Karriere

Hay war der Sohn von William Hay, 17. Earl of Erroll, und dessen Ehefrau Alice. Er besuchte das Eton College. Am 4. Dezember 1820 heiratete er in der Westminster Abbey Elizabeth FitzClarence, eine uneheliche Tochter von König William IV. und Dorothy Jordan. Das Ehepaar hatte vier Kinder.

Von 1836 bis 1846 war Hay Lord Lieutenant von Aberdeenshire. Außerdem hatte er seit 1830 verschiedene Positionen am britischen Hofe inne; so war er von 1839 bis 1841 Lord Steward of the Household.

1819 hatte Hay beim Tode seines Vaters dessen Titel geerbt. 1831 wurde er zum Baron Kilmarnock ernannt. Dieser Titel gehört zur Peerage of the United Kingdom und war damals anders als die älteren schottischen Würden automatisch mit einem Sitz im House of Lords verbunden.

Hay starb im Alter von 45 Jahren in London. Seine Titel gingen auf den ältesten Sohn über.
