Die Tschuktschensee zwischen Sibirien und Alaska

Die Tschuktschensee (engl. Chukchi Sea, russ. Чуко́тское мо́ре/Tschukotskoje more) ist ein Randmeer des eisigen Nordpolarmeeres, das nördlich der Nahtstelle von Amerika und Asien liegt.

Während sie im Norden in das „Eismeer“ übergeht, grenzt sie im Nordwesten an die Wrangelinsel und damit an die Ostsibirische See. Im Osten stößt die Tschuktschensee an Nordwest-Alaska (USA) und im Nordosten an die Beaufortsee. Im Süden grenzt sie an die Beringstraße, die zum Beringmeer überleitet. Die westliche Abgrenzung ist Ostsibirien (Russland, Asien); dort liegt die Tschuktschen-Halbinsel und das Ostsibirische Bergland.

Die Tschuktschensee erstreckt sich direkt jenseits des Nördlichen Polarkreises von etwa 66,5 bis 80° Breite, bzw. von 160° westlicher Breite bis 180° Länge und ist relativ flach.
