Nach der offiziellen Schätzung von 2009 hat die Stadt 19.910 Einwohner[1] auf einer Fläche von 19,7 km². Die Stadt liegt 53 km nordwestlich von Atlanta an der Interstate 75, auch bekannt als Dixie Highway.
Geschichte
Acworth wurde am 1. Dezember 1840 gegründet und nach der Heimatstadt von Joseph L. Gregg, einem Ingenieur der Western & Atlantic Railroad, Acworth in New Hampshire benannt.
Während des Sezessionskrieges wurde die Stadt im November 1864 von General William T. Sherman niedergebrannt, nur ein paar Häuser entkamen den Flammen.
Geografie
In der Nähe der Stadt, die im Volksmund "The Lake City" genannt wird, befinden sich die, in den späten 40er Jahren, künstlich angelegten Seen Lake Allatoona und Lake Acworth.
