Das Defence Intelligence Staff (DIS) ist der militärische Nachrichtendienst in Großbritannien. Er untersteht als Unterabteilung dem Verteidigungsministerium und berichtet direkt dem Premierminister.

Organisation

Das Defence Intelligence Staff steht unter der Leitung des Chief of Defence Intelligence (CDI). Ihm unterstellt sind die zwei Abteilungen Defence Intelligence Analysis Staff (DIAS) und Intelligence Collection Staff (ICS).

Das Defence Intelligence Staff beschäftigt 4500 Personen als militärische wie zivile Angestellte.

Geschichte

Das Defence Intelligence Staff wurde im Jahr 1946 unter der Bezeichnung Joint Intelligence Bureau (JIB) unter der Leitung von General Kenneth Strong gegründet. Es folgte dem Directorate of Military Intelligence. Nach der Gründung des Verteidigungsministeriums im Jahr 1964 entstand DIS in seiner heutigen Form.
