Dong Fang Hong I, auch bekannt als „China 1“, war der erste erfolgreiche chinesische Satellit, der am 24. April 1970 mit einer Trägerrakete des Typs „CZ-1“ (Chang Zheng 1) gestartet wurde. Er war Teil des so genannten „Dong Fang Hong“-Satellitenprogramms. Mit seinen 173 Kilogramm war er im Vergleich zu den ersten Satelliten anderer Nationen relativ schwer. Die Bahnhöhe betrug 439 x 2.384 Kilometer, die Bahnneigung 68.5°. Der Satellit hatte einen Radiosender, der permanent die Hymne auf Mao ZedongDer Osten ist rot“ ausstrahlte.

Durch diesen erfolgreichen Satellitenstart wurde die Volksrepublik China die fünfte Macht, die einen eigenen Satelliten mit einer indigenen Rakete in die Umlaufbahn bringen konnte. Propagandistisch erlitt Beijing jedoch einen empfindlichen Rückschlag durch den vorhergehenden Erfolg, den Japan am 11. Februar 1970 mit dem Mikrosatelliten Ōsumi (12 kg) verbuchen konnte.
