Edwin Carr (* 10. August 1926 in Auckland City; † 27. März 2003 auf Waiheke Island) war ein neuseeländischer Komponist und Dirigent.

Biografie

Von 1940 bis 1943 besuchte Edwin Carr die Otago Boy’s High School. Von 1945 bis 1946 studierte er erst an der Otago University, später am Auckland University College, wobei er keinen Abschluss erreichte. 1946 besuchte er die erste Musikschule von Cambridge, dort nahm er Kompositionsunterricht bei Douglas Lilburn. 1948 reiste er nach England, wo er Geoffrey Grey traf. Außerdem arbeitete er in Italien als musikalischer Direktor einer Ballettschule. 1958 reiste er nach Neuseeland zurück, wo er bis 1960 unterrichtete und komponierte. 1977 reiste er nach Australien, wo er am Sydney Conservatorium unterrichtete. 1984 kehrte er als freischaffender Komponist erneut nach Neuseeland zurück. 1991 zog er nach Waiheke Island, wo er weiterhin als Komponist aktiv blieb. Am 27. März 2003 starb er in seinem Haus auf Waiheke Island.
