Environmental Justice (EJ; dt. in etwa: Gerechtigkeit bezüglich Umwelteinwirkungen) bezeichnet in den USA die Gleichbehandlung und Einbeziehung aller Einwohner eines bestimmten Gebiets in die Entscheidungsfindung eines umweltbeeinträchtigenden Projekts (z. B. Müllverbrennungsanlage, Raffinerie, etc.) unabhängig von ihrer Rasse, ihrer Ethnie, ihrem Einkommen oder ihrem Ausbildungsniveau. EJ-Programme fördern den Schutz von menschlicher Gesundheit und Umwelt durch Hilfe zur Teilnahme an öffentlichen Aushandlungsprozessen. Sie tun dies insbesondere durch die Verbreitung von umweltrelevanten Informationen und gezielte Ausbildung betroffener Gemeinden und Wohnquartiere.
