Ferlinghetti

Lawrence Ferlinghetti (* 24. März 1919 in Yonkers, New York) ist ein US-amerikanischer Schriftsteller, Dichter der Beat-Generation und versteht sich als Anarchist.

Ferlinghetti wuchs in Frankreich auf. Er studierte an der Universität von North Carolina in Chapel Hill, ging zur Marine und promovierte an der Sorbonne mit einer Dissertation über das Symbol der Stadt in der Dichtung der Moderne. Er eröffnete den City Lights Bookstore in San Francisco, der zum Treffpunkt avantgardistischer Autoren wurde, deren Werke er zum Teil verlegte. Seine eigenen Gedichte sind Beispiele der von ihm geförderten Beatlyrik, die eine antikapitalistische Änderung der amerikanischen Gesellschaft und den Aufbau einer Gegenkultur zum Ziel hat.

Die italienische Band Timoria hat ihn auch in der Musikwelt verewigt - und zwar mit dem Titel Ferlinghetti Blues (am Album El Topo Grand Hotel zu finden), wo der Poet selbst eines seiner Gedichte vorliest.
