Links NCBI Taxonomie: 11050 ICTVdB Virus Code: 00.026 Die Flaviviridae stellen eine Familie von Viren dar, die alle einsträngige RNA enthalten und daher taxonomisch den RNA-Viren zugeordnet werden. Die Typspezies der gesamten Familie ist das Gelbfieber-Virus (daher auch der Name der Familie von lat. flavus, „gelb“).
Alle Vertreter dieser Familie besitzen eine Virushülle aus Lipiden der ursprünglichen Wirtszelle und darin eingelagerten viralen Proteinen und haben eine Größe zwischen 40–60 nm. Die Viren vermehren sich im Cytoplasma der Wirtszelle und sind im pH-Wert-Bereich von 7–9 stabil.
Systematik
Zur Familie Flaviviridae zählen die Gattungen Flavivirus, Pestivirus und Hepacivirus.
Die Erreger der Gattung Flavivirus rufen sowohl beim Mensch, als auch beim Tier eine große Anzahl an Virusinfektionen hervor. Hierzu zählen u. a. das Gelbfieber, Dengue-Fieber, die Frühsommer-Meningoenzephalitis (FSME), das West-Nil-Fieber, die Louping Ill, die Wesselsbron-Krankheit (Schafe, Ziegen u.ä.) und die japanische B-Enzephalitis (Vögel und Schweine).
Bislang einziger Vertreter der Hepaciviren ist das Hepatitis-C-Virus, das beim Menschen die Krankheit Hepatitis C hervorruft.
Die Viren der Gattung Pestivirus spielen ausschließlich bei Tieren als Krankheitserreger eine Rolle. Hierzu zählt u.a. das SP-Virus als Auslöser der Klassischen Schweinepest, das BVD/MD-Virus (BVD-Bovine Virusdiarrhoe) und die Border Disease der Schafe.
