HMS Little Belt

Zwei Schiffe der britischen Royal Navy trugen den Namen HMS Little Belt nach dem Kleinen Belt, der Meerenge zwischen Fünen und Jütland in Dänemark.

  • Die erste Little Belt war ein Schiff 6. Ranges mit 20 Geschützen, das einer leicht vergrößerten Sloop glich. Es war ein ursprünglich dänisches Schiff mit dem Namen Lille Belt, das nach der Seeschlacht von Kopenhagen 1807 von den Briten übernommen und in Little Belt umbenannt wurde. In der sog. President-Little Belt-Affäre, einem Schusswechsel mit der US-Fregatte USS President am 17. Mai 1811, wurde sie so schwer beschädigt, dass sie 1811 verkauft wurde.
  • Die zweite Little Belt war eine Sloop mit 18 Kanonen, die 1812 gebaut und in der Schlacht auf dem Eriesee am 10. September 1813 von den Amerikanern erbeutet wurde. Sie strandete im Dezember dieses Jahres unter amerikanischer Flagge bei Black Rock (New York) und wurde bald darauf von britischen Truppen verbrannt.
