Der englische Begriff Handrail (im Deutschen: Handlauf) wird im Deutschen von Skateboardern und Aggressive Skatern im Streetskating verwendet. Sie sliden und Grinden am Rail (Stange) und überwinden so eine Treppe. Dabei wird das Handrailskaten schwieriger eingestuft, als das grinden an z.B. einem Curb, da das Handrail viel schmaler und oftmals auch steiler ist. Ein Sturz von so einem Handrail kann zu schweren Verletzungen führen. Mittlerweile werden an Geländern auch oft Skatestopper angebracht, um das Skaten daran zu verhindern.
