Der Alternative Investment Market (AIM) ist ein Börsensegment an der Londoner Börse London Stock Exchange, das hinsichtlich der regulatorischen Grundlage sowie der volkswirtschaftlichen Funktion als Einstiegssegment in den Börsenhandel mit dem deutschen Open Market vergleichbar ist[1].

Geschichte

Der AIM wurde 1995 als Marktsegment für kleinere, wachstumsstarke Unternehmen ohne lange Historie gegründet. Es gibt nur geringe Voraussetzungen für eine Börsennotiz, was zu einer entsprechend heterogenen Qualität der notierten Gesellschaften führt. Bis heute (Stand: Nov. 2006) sind mehr als 2.500 Unternehmen zugelassen worden.

Kritik

Da der Listing-Prozess vergleichsweise teuer ist, wird von Kritikern der Verdacht geäußert, dass die AIM eher mit dem Ziel gegründet wurde, Geschäfte für die Londoner Broker-Community zu generieren, als kostengünstig und flexibel Risikokapital für neue Firmen zu beschaffen. Eines der wichtigsten Elemente, um im AIM aufgenommen zu werden, ist der NOMAD, der Nominated Advisor. Dieser führt das Listing und die Due Diligence durch und fungiert hinterher als Market Maker.

Zudem gab es in der Vergangenheit mehrere Fälle, in denen nur oberflächliche Überprüfungen stattfanden und bei denen der Zugang zum AIM nur zur schnellen Kapitalbeschaffung genutzt wurde, ohne dass ein Gegenwert bestand. Dies war insbesondere im Bereich der Explorations- und Rohstoffwerte der Fall. Mittlerweile gehören knapp 50 Prozent der im AIM gelisteten Firmen zu diesem Umfeld. Daher wird von Kritikern eine strengere Kontrolle gefordert.
