Imphal ist die Hauptstadt des indischen Bundesstaats Manipur. Sie ist Verwaltungssitz des Distrikts Imphal West[3] und hat etwa 265.000 Einwohner (Volkszählung 2011).

Imphal liegt in einem Tal und ist von bewaldeten Bergen umgeben. Der Flughafen der Stadt (IATA-Code:IMF; Lage24.759793.8969) hat Verbindungen nach Delhi, Kolkata, Guwahati und Aizawl. Touristen benötigen für Imphal bzw. Manipur eine Sondererlaubnis.

Imphal hat eine Universität. In der Stadt befinden sich die Ruinen des Palastes von Kangla und es gibt mehrere Denkmäler, die an den Zweiten Weltkrieg erinnern. Das Manipur State Museum zeigt in einer Ausstellung Gegenstände und Bilder aus der Geschichte des Bundesstaates Manipur. Besonders sehenswert ist ein Markt im Stadtzentrum, auf dem nur Frauen ihre Waren feilbieten.
