Die Internationale Biathlon-Union (IBU, engl. International Biathlon Union) ist der Dachverband aller nationalen Biathlonverbände. Sie wurde am 2. Juli 1993 in Heathrow bei London gegründet. Ihr gehören derzeit 62 Verbände an. Sitz der IBU ist Salzburg in Österreich.
Neben dem klassischen Biathlon haben auch dem Biathlon ähnliche Sportarten bei der IBU ihre Heimat: Rollski-Biathlon, Crosslauf-Biathlon, Mountainbike-Biathlon und Bogenschießen-Biathlon.
Geschichte der IBU
Die Biathleten waren von ihrer Anerkennung als olympische Sportart im Jahr 1960 bis zum Jahr 1993 der Internationalen Union für Modernen Fünfkampf (UIPM) angeschlossen. 1993 wurde die Gründung der IBU als unabhängiger Verband unter dem Dach der UIPM beschlossen, 1998 folgte dann die endgültige Trennung der beiden Verbände.
