Jafaican

Jafaican (Jafaikan), auch Tikkiny genannt, ist ein recht neuer Dialekt bzw. Soziolekt des Englischen, der hauptsächlich in der Londoner Innenstadt gesprochen wird. Forschungen des Queen Mary College der London University ergeben, dass Jafaican gegenüber dem so genannten Cockney bzw. Estuary English an Boden gewinnt.

Der aus den Elementen "Jamaican" und "fake" zusammengesetzte Neologismus, wurde im Jahre 2006 gängig.

Er soll viele Elemente der auf Jamaika, in Westafrika und auf dem indischen Subkontinent gesprochenen Sprachen etwa Bengalisch sowie südamerikanische und arabische Elemente enthalten. Bekannt gemacht wurde er durch den englischen Komiker Sacha Baron Cohen in seiner Rolle als Möchtegern-Gangsta Ali G. Obwohl der Begriff "Jafaican" impliziert, dass es sich bei der Sprache um ein nachgeahmtes Jamaikanisch handelt, weisen Sprachforscher darauf hin, dass es sich dabei nicht um die Sprache weißer Jugendlicher handelt, die "cool" klingen wollen, sondern eher um die Sprache von Jugendlichen, die in einem London aufgewachsen sind, in dem sie von Englisch als einer Zweitsprache mit unterschiedlicher ethnischer Färbung umgeben sind; diese Sprachelemente hätten sich dann wiederum mit dem Lokalidiom vermischt.

In einem Artikel des britischen Guardian erschien diese Kostprobe:

"Safe, man. You lookin buff in dem low batties. Dey's sick, man. Me? I'm just jammin wid me bruds. Dis my yard, innit? Is nang, you get me? No? What ends you from then?".

Ein weiteres Beispiel für Jafaican:

"Rah, das nuff nang!", was übersetzt wird mit "Wow, that's really good!" ("Toll, das ist wirklich gut!").

Im Sommer 2006 ging eine Nachricht durch die Medien, dass für Touristen Kurzkurse in der Sprache angeboten werden sollen, wie u.a. die Netzeitung berichtete[1].
