Im Jahre 2000 fand die erste Saison der reformierten Version des European Nations Cup (ENC) im Rugby Union statt. Die Reform war vor allem deswegen nötig, weil Italien in den Teilnehmerkreis der Six Nations aufgenommen worden war.
Mit Marokko nahm an dieser ersten Ausgabe auch ein afrikanisches Land teil. Jede Mannschaft spielte nach dem Six-Nations-Vorbild nur einmal gegen jeden Gegner, und die Spieldaten deckten sich auch ungefähr mit denjenigen des Six-Nations-Turniers.
