Jewish Colonization Association

Die Jewish Colonization Association (Abk.: JCA, auch: ICA) wurde am 11. September 1891 von Baron Maurice de Hirsch als Aktiengesellschaft nach englischem Recht gegründet. Erster Präsident war Narcisse Leven.

Das Ziel der ICA war, die Emigration von Juden aus Russland und anderen osteuropäischen Staaten zu unterstützen, indem man sie in Landwirtschaftskolonien ansiedelte, deren Land zuvor von der JCA gekauft worden war, vor allem in Nord- und Südamerika (Argentinien; in Argentinien wurden 21 Agrarkolonien gebildet).

Im Januar 1900 übertrug Baron Edmond Rothschild der JCA die Verantwortung für seine Dörfer in Palästina. Damit ging die Zeit seiner direkten Vormundschaft über die Siedlungen zu Ende. Treibende Kraft in Palästina wurde seit 1901 dann der JCA-Direktor für Untergaliläa, der Zionist Chaim Klovrisky-Margalit.

1924 wurden die von Baron Rothschild gegründeten Siedlungswerke als PICA (Palestine Jewish Colonization Association) in die JCA überführt. 1927 ging die JCA in der HICEM auf.

HICEM war die 1927 gegründete jüdische Auswanderungshilfsorganisation (als Zusammenschluss von HIAS = Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society, ICA und EMIGDIRECT = Emigrationsdirectorium ) mit Sitz in Paris (bis 1940), dann bis zur Auflösung 1945 in New York (Übernahme von Kapital und Aufgaben durch HIAS).[1][2][3]
