The Journal of General Physiology ist eine US-amerikanische wissenschaftliche Zeitschrift auf dem Gebiet der Physiologie und wurde im Jahr 1918 durch Jacques Loeb gegründet.
Dies geschah, nachdem Loeb durch Russell Henry Chittenden (1856–1943) aus der Gruppe der Herausgeber des American Journal of Physiology wegen seines Wechsels von der University of Chicago an die University of California, Berkeley entfernt wurde.
