Das Krio ist eine in Sierra Leone verbreitete, auf dem Englischen basierende Kreolsprache.

Krio ist dort Muttersprache für ca. 10% der Bevölkerung, 472.600 im Jahr 1993, und dient als Verkehrssprache in Politik und Handel. Krio ist eine Tonsprache, d.h. die relative Tonhöhe der Silben ist distinktiv, also bedeutungsunterscheidend. Es gibt drei Toneme: steigend, fallend und steigend-fallend. Ca. 4.000.000, die Mehrheit der restlichen Bevölkerung, nutzt Krio als Pidgin oder Zweitsprache. Einige Sprecher gibt es auch in Gambia, Guinea und Senegal.
