Kymco steht für Kwang Yang Motor Corporation (chin. 光陽工業, Guāng Yáng Gōng Yè) und ist ein taiwanischer Hersteller von Motorrollern (50–500 cm³) sowie Motorrädern und Leichtkrafträdern (50–250 cm³) wie dem Kymco Zing II. Es werden auch Sport- und Straßenquads (50–500 cm³) produziert. Daneben wird ein Nutzfahrzeug (auf Quad-Basis) produziert sowie eine Palette von Mehrzweckmotoren und Benzin-Generatoren.[2]

Außerdem stellt Kymco die 450 cm³-Einzylindermotoren her, die beim deutschen Motorradhersteller BMW in den Modellen der BMW G 450 X verwendet werden.[3]

Die Firma wurde 1963 gegründet und beschäftigt heute über 4.000 Mitarbeiter. Produziert wird in drei Fabriken in Taiwan und Übersee, in drei Fabriken in China und jeweils einer Fabrik in Indonesien und Vietnam.[1]

Kymco hat weltweit Handelsniederlassungen.[4] Laut eigenen Angaben wurden im Jahr 2005 502.000 Einheiten verkauft. In vielen Ländern, zum Beispiel Japan oder Österreich, ist Kymco momentan Marktführer in der 50 cm³-Roller-Klasse.
