Anna Sewell (* 30. März 1820 in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, England; † 25. April 1878 in Old Catton, Norfolk) war eine britische Schriftstellerin, die das Buch Black Beauty verfasste.

Ihre Mutter war die damals bekannte Jugendbuch-Autorin Mary Wright Sewell, der Vater war Manager einer Bank. Mit 12 Jahren stürzte sie und zog sich eine Knieverletzung zu, die nie ausheilte. Sie konnte deshalb nur noch mit Krücken gehen und fuhr häufig eine Kutsche. Dadurch bekam sie eine enge Beziehung zu Pferden, die in jener Zeit oft sehr schlecht behandelt wurden. Außerdem half sie ihrer Mutter häufig beim Korrigieren ihrer Bücher und wurde dadurch mit der Schriftstellerei bekannt.

In ihrem letzten Lebensjahrzehnt war sie aufgrund ihrer Krankheit ans Haus gebunden und verfasste in dieser Zeit ihr einziges Buch: Black Beauty – die autobiographisch geschilderte Lebensgeschichte eines geschundenen Pferdes, die aber versöhnlich endet. Das Buch erschien 1877 und wurde ein Welterfolg. Zudem diente es als Vorlage für Film- und Fernseh-Produktionen. Sewell verstarb bereits wenige Monate nach Erscheinen des Buches.

Sewells Geburtshaus ist heute ein Museum.
