Die Lucida-Schriftsippe wurde 1984/1985 von Charles Bigelow und Kris Holmes entworfen.

Sie war als eine der ersten für DTP verfügbar und hat sich zu einem echten Allrounder entwickelt. Charakteristisch für die Lucida ist eine große x-Höhe und ein klares Bild mit mitunter klassizistischen Zügen. Allerdings eignet sie sich durch die angesprochene x-Höhe nicht sehr für umfangreichen Mengentext, kann aber ansonsten für alles verwendet werden.
