Management

Management kann sowohl Leitungsfunktionen in Unternehmen und Organisationen bezeichnen als auch die Personen, die diese Funktionen ausüben und entsprechende Managementkompetenzen benötigen. Zu den typischen Funktionen oder Aufgaben des Managements in Unternehmen und Organisationen gehört die Planung, Organisation, Führung und Kontrolle (im Sinne von Erfolgskontrolle).[1]

Das Wort leitet sich ab von englisch manage, dies von italienisch maneggiare „an der Hand führen“, dies von lat. manus „Hand“; die engl. Bedeutung wurde im 17./18. Jh. durch franz. ménagement beeinflusst. Die etymologische Wurzel des Begriffs Management ist nicht vollständig geklärt. Als mögliche Wurzeln kommen in Frage lateinisch manus agere, „an der Hand führen“ oder „mansionem agere“, „das Haus (für den Eigentümer) bestellen“.[2]
