Marquess of Reading ist ein erblicher britischer Adelstitel in der Peerage of the United Kingdom, benannt nach der Stadt Reading. Er wird von Mitgliedern der Familie Isaacs getragen. Der jeweilige Marquess ist damit der Jude mit dem höchsten Adelstitel im Vereinigten Königreich.

Stammsitz der Familie ist Jaynes Court bei Bisley, Gloucestershire.

Verleihung

Der Titel wurde im Jahre 1926 für Rufus Isaacs geschaffen. Dieser war Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales und Vizekönig von Indien gewesen. Später wurde er dann noch für einige Monate Außenminister.

Das Marquessat ist das letzte, das bis zum heutigen Tage außerhalb der Britischen Königsfamilie verliehen wurde.

Nachgeordnete Titel

Nachgeordnete Titel des Marquess of Reading sind Baron Reading, of Erleigh in the County of Berkshire (geschaffen 1914), Viscount Reading, of Erleigh in the County of Berkshire (geschaffen 1916), Viscount Erleigh, of Erleigh in the County of Berkshire (geschaffen 1926), und Earl of Reading (geschaffen 1917). Sämtliche Titel wurden dem ersten Marquess verliehen.

Der Titelerbe führt den Höflichkeitstitel Viscount Erleigh.

Der Titel Baron Reading war bereits 1804 Henry Addington angeboten worden, als dieser aus dem Amt des Premierministers ausschied. Dieser lehnte damals die Erhebung in den Adelsstand ab, da er durch sie seinen Sitz im House of Commons verloren hätte. Er akzeptierte später den Titel eines Viscount Sidmouth.
